Window and Door Mechanisms

Similarly to what is discussed for locks, mechanisms provide security and functionality to a window or door. The main difference is that locks usually are a single piece while mechanisms are a complete solution of several parts with a more complex function. There are 2 types of mechanisms, tilt & turn, and lift & slide.

Description

Similarly to what is discussed for locks, mechanisms provide security and functionality to a window or door. The main difference is that locks usually are a single piece while mechanisms are a complete solution of several parts with a more complex function. There are 2 types of mechanisms, tilt & turn, and lift & slide.

The tilt & turn mechanisms are characterized by the following points:

  • Their material and their operation design. Hence, there are 2 basic types, the aluminium mechanism, which consists of metal parts connected by a rod, and the steel mechanism, which consists of metal parts connected to each other without the use of extra parts.
  • The number of locking points. Both mechanism can have multiple locking points perimetrically of the sash, according the security requirements.
  • The handle type. The Alumil range mechanisms are always fitted with Alumil handles.
  • The sash weight. When there are large openings, and/or heavy glass panes, a heavy-duty mechanism should be used. However, in most cases standard mechanisms can be sufficient.
  • The hinge aesthetics. Mechanism hinges can be visible or concealed, and painted in various colours.
  • The sash-opening angle. The opening angle may differ depending to the technical characteristics of each mechanism. Hence, there are mechanisms that allow the sash to open up to 100 degrees while others up to 180 degrees.
  • The maximum sash dimensions they can support.
  • Their certifications against durability and corrosion resistance. The Alumil range mechanisms are highly certified at all levels.

The lift and slide system mechanisms are characterized by the following points:

  • The weight that their rollers can support. Alumil has 2 mechanisms. The standard one is adequate for sash weight up to 200kg and the heavy-duty one up to 400kg.
  • The number of locking points. Both mechanisms described above have 2 locking points and one more for enhanced security, if required. The number of the locking points, and the fact that the sash lays on its weight when closed.
  • The ease of use. Alumil lift and slide mechanisms offer very smooth and silent sliding even for very large and heavy sashes, while the locking operation is safe even for young kids.
  • Alumil lift and slide mechanisms are always fitted with Alumil handles.
  • Alumil lift and slide mechanisms are fully certified for durability and corrosion resistance.
